It has always been at the forefront of social, cultural and charitable services in the society. Founded by then leading members of the Nair community of Ernakulam for promoting goodwill and amity among various sections of the society and the Nair community in particular, the Karayogam is now a full-fledged organization with a number of welfare services.
The foresight and objectives of the founder members have been amply demonstrated in the years thereafter through expansions and widely acclaimed welfare activities initiated by the Karayogam.
Social service continues to be the first and foremost aim of the Karayogam and in this endeavour, differences in cast, creed, religion, language etc. are no barrier. The Karayogam spends upto ₹50 lakh per year for its charity activities.
The Karayogam gives due importance to promote spiritual activities by regularly organising talks from eminent personalities, arranging yajnas on the Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata, Bhagavatha, and observing the Ramayana Month, Narayaneeyam Day, Thunjan Day, etc.
The Karayogam extends help to the poor and needy to conduct marriages of their wards, render medical supplies to Cancer patients, supply medicines to HIV Patients, Leprosy and CMHP wards at the Ernakulam General Hospital.
Financial assistance for education is yet another area where the Karayogam extends a helping hand to deserving students without any discrimination on the basis of religion, caste etc. It also gives pension to members who are above the age of 75 and are financially weak and also to their widows above the age of 60.
Funeral is yet another service arranged by the Karayogam. It ensures that all religious formalities are observed so that the last rites are conducted in conformity with customs. This is a free service rendered to their members and at a nominal charge for non-members.
